Many years ago I played bass with an extraordinary group of musicians. I was not particularly talented but I knew good luck when it crossed my path.It was a magical time. Remarkably, the creative core of that original band has remained intact and musically vital for the past thirty years. Certainly, this CD "Sneeken Around" is not the raggedy,enthusiastic music of our youth. The boys have learned a trick or two during the intervening years. The new jazz infused tracks are far more sinewy and muscular than we have heard before.Their musical choices reflect a sophisticated and daring palette of colors. This is clearly music as a survival of the soul. Take "Hope" with its fascinating percussion work or "Compared to What", the Les McCann tune rearranged Damion style. The title track "Sneeken Around" and another cut "Cloud 9" will transport you to a mystical place where discipline and recklessness collide in a in a visceral thunder clap.
