9inch Heels is the first release on Save Our Souls, a new label set up by clubland innovator Jim Warboy, borne out of the East London SOS parties. The orginal track was the result of a collaboration between London rapper Niyi and producer Warboy who created a cheeky sexual innuendo hook, reflecting a dark, dry humour. This has now been reinterpreted with two new mixes, including the main release by Beyondadoubt, a DJ, producer and music curator from Memphis, USA, and former tour DJ for Gossip lead singer Beth Ditto. Beyondadoubt's mix has the framework of a classic Cajual-esque Chicago house track but also nods to ballroom and modern bass. It's accompanied by a slick and smokey video directed by Judah Switzer and Eric Mast, and features a jaw dropping performance by Beyonda's muse Isaiah Allure Esquire. Warboy's mix has a strong acid lead bassline bouncing over stripped down tribal drums and scattered with trippy, twisted vocals. Hints of dark electro breakdowns go to prove that Save Our Souls is kicking off as it means to go on with a genre-bending approach to dance music. Jim Warboy has carved out a strong reputation in London's underground club scene, having been involved with a number of influential brands over the past ten years. As well as continuing to organise underground parties, he is a resident DJ/ Promoter at Egg London.
