Somewhere along the line, the words Tech House almost became 'bad words' in the world of underground electronic music... a sub-genre that had become oversaturated with unfocused, watered-down releases. Ben Techy's 'Patience EP' is anything but. With a dark, classic sound that harkens back to some great records of yesteryear, infused with modern production sensibilities... these are three bread-and-butter Tech House tracks to set the mood in various sections of of a DJ's set. Only a few releases in and steadily honing his craft, this young Scottish Producer/DJ shows plenty of promise and will no doubt be a player in years to come. Without further delay, we present the 14th entry into the Terminus Audio catalog: Ben Techy - Patience EP. We begin with 'Discipline', a dark yet funky tune with subtle tribal drums and a powerful sitar-esque lead. Stripped down, but with plenty of detailed nuances and jacking, analog hi-hats; this is an exotic piece that brings to work some of the earlier work of Guy Gerber. One to set the mood for the last night in town or a long night ahead. Next comes 'Glebe', with a much heavier approach. A thudding, pronounced kick anchors the arrangement; backing a brooding analog germanic synth line, topped with bubbling minimal percussion. The feel of this track is reminiscent of many Oliver Hunntemann records and should do just fine in darker territories of a set and is definitely one to add to your weekend arsenal. Terminus Audio tends to finish strong, and Ben Techy's 'Patience EP' is no exception to the rule. 'Like Flies' is a standout track featuring prominent driving synth that conjures images of a sprawling futuristic cityscape from Blade Runner. With very efficient and sharp cymbal and drum work along with ethereal, sweeping effects served in a concise package... this an essential for anyone who loves the 'future-classic' sound Terminus is sometimes known for.
