Interstate
oise's premier songwriting and recording band, Interstate, began with one song during the summer of 2006. Classical vocalist Kyle Downs and jazz guitarist Jake Van Paepeghem performed their first song for the students of Young Musicians and Artists, a residential arts and music camp in Salem, Oregon, and quickly recognized that they had created something special. After writing and performing for the next three years, the duo came to Boise to record with a full band. The result was their first EP, Better Than Nothing, released in the spring of 2009. Showing that they were more than just sensitive singer/songwriters, Better Than Nothing fused full-throated Rock & Roll with elements of classical and jazz, creating heartfelt melodies with heart-pounding energy.
